What do students think? Jeff Selingo is sharing some observations he’s collected while interviewing college students around the country: They value face-to-face instruction, they need more guidance when choosing a college and major, and they see college as a networking opportunity just as much as an education. Using data to ID at-risk behavior. Educators at a Bronx school use Google docs, in a color-coded “stoplight” system, to keep tabs on students’ behavior, attendance, and grades. They say this helps them identify at-risk students early on, so they can get them the support they need. The state is encouraging other schools to follow suit. (Gotham Schools)
Revamping the approach. Public Impact has released 10 school models that use various methods and tools, like technology or time, to improve teacher production and student outcomes. They will pilot some of these models at five schools nationwide. (Opportunityculture.org)
