Wall Street is attractive to Ivy grads because at least until recently, it was the surest bet to get those student loans paid off as quickly as possible. My DH finished b-school in June 2006 with six figures’ worth of loans but was able to pay them all off by January 2008 by working in i-banking. He HATED being a banker and soon after switched to a less-lucrative field that offered a more sane schedule. Now the recent financial crisis has totally changed the ball game in terms of compensation, but it takes a bit of time for that information to filter down to naive undergraduates.
