MIT will pilot online courses. Beginning in the spring, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will offer online courses to non-enrolled students as part of a pilot program. Credentials will be awarded under the name “MITx” to distinguish it from university, brick-and-mortar courses. (Associated Press)
Feeding the ‘school-to-prison’ pipeline. A report in Connecticut shows that about 5,000 high-schoolers are “counseled, coerced, or otherwise forced to, essentially, leave high school,” usually for alternative schools or programs that churn out fewer graduates. (Public News Service)
